What the What is an OhNut? What People Really Want for the Valentine’s Day

If you want to read more about penile rings (a.k.a. cock rings), check out my previous blog, “If You Like It Then You Should Have Put a Ring On It.” This blog goes into the various different types and indications of using these tools in the bedroom.

What is one of the favorite tools in my pelvic floor tool box? An OhNut.

By definition, an OhNut is a soft compressible buffer made from 4 rings. It can be used together or individually to adjust when penetration feels too deep, without sacrificing sensation for you or your partner. Recently, the company came out with a new bonus ring that also has vibration to add to the fun.

If you have read a few things by me, you know I believe that traditional intercourse (a.k.a. as “penis in the vagina” sex) is not the only type of sexual activity available to people. But for those who want to pursue this activity and have difficulty, there can be help. Indications for using an OhNut are varied, and there is a wide range of activities available to play and experiment with using an OhNut set.

Let’s talk today about five reasons why the new OhNut Rumble Bundle should be on basically everyone’s Valentine’s Day gift list.

ONE: Customizable Penetration

Have you read my blog about Big Dick Energy and Other Assorted Penis Myths? If you have, you may already know my stance that not every partner being penetrated wants a giant penis to be going inside. Let’s imagine that a penetrating partner or toy is a little too well endowed in the length parameter. That can be challenging for certain positions, certain forces with thrusting, and it can impact possible overall comfort. The glory of the OhNut is that it allows for customizable penetration. This means that you can make the penetration shorter by 1 ring or 10 rings! This can come in handy for people who may have discomfort with certain penetration depths, but can also just be fun to play around with. Different penetration lengths make for different sensations for both partners.

TWO: “Do It Yourself”/ DIY Creativity

Some people like to be creative with their intimacy. I love that OhNut really encourages this. There are a variety of colors and packages for different sexual adventures. This company is very inclusive, and caters to individuals and couples of all different types. Want to try out deeper penetration with some vibration? How about more shallow penetration with a new type of lube? How about changing the color of your partner’s genitalia or the look of your favorite toy? OhNut has lots of choices for fun and exploration. On Wednesdays, we should totally wear rainbow OhNuts!

THREE: Extra Orgasms

When I hear penis owners brag about their magical penises, I have to really work to control my eye roll. If a penis owner is having sex with a vagina owner, 75% of the time, pleasure and orgasm is more about the clitoral stimulation than what the penis is actually doing when it comes to the vagina owner’s pleasure. Yes, sometimes the angles and bodies match up just right to make that happen automatically, but many times that is not what happens.

Want to up the chances of the vulva owner having a better time? Try adding some vibration. OhNut just came out with their new vibrating ring that can up the DIY creativity “one million percent” (yes I just quoted Macho Man Randy Savage). This ring can be the “cherry on top” or used in any way a person can imagine. Use does not have to be limited to a penis. It can be used on a finger, a toy, or all by itself being positioned by the user or a partner. It is washable, splash-proof, and looks like tons of fun!

Also, remember that orgasms come most easily when both partners are relaxed and enjoying the experience. When the penetrating partner can know they are not hurting anyone with their thrusting, this can allow for more worry free, enjoyable sex, leading to more orgasms!

FOUR: Fun It Up

Speaking of fun, sometimes adding something new to an older or practiced routine can “freshen” things up. Think about a new relationship: you are learning from each other, experimenting with what you and your partner like. You may be learning bodies, learning anatomy, learning habits, and learning personalities. Now imagine you have been with your partner for a while. You may have perfected a routine or two, found a few favorite positions, and be able to please each other quite well. But it can be fun to introduce a new group project to learn and explore something with your partner.

FIVE: Bedroom Troubles

Erectile dysfunction, painful penetration, and lack of pleasure…oh my. The OhNut company offers a lot of different options to help with painful sex. A ring around the base of the penis can help improve an erection by keeping the blood flow inside. Think of it like a helper, or a support, to give the penis a little assistance if and when needed. So if a partner is experiencing some trouble with keeping an erection, this can be a great tool.

Sex can be painful for a variety of reasons and this is a whole other rabbit hole to fall down. If you have pain with sex, speak up to your provider and get help! However, when sex is painful, vibration may help by doing some of the following:

  • Elongating the vaginal canal
  • Increasing blood flow and bringing oxygen to muscles which allows them to relax
  • Increasing blood flow to the clitoris
  • Increasing lubrication
  • Relaxing pelvic floor muscles
  • Decreasing pelvic pain

We also spoke about the customizable penetration OhNuts can offer. My other feature is the cushion an OhNut provides to both partners. So if there is any pain in the pubic bone region, this can be a really great helper.

Another issue I hear from clients is a lack of orgasm. Some people, usually vulva owners, have never experienced an orgasm or have been unable to achieve one with a partner. I think one of the first steps for this can be self exploration if the person is willing and able. Vibration is nice because it can be used solo or with a partner. It is not everyone’s cup of tea, but when it works, it works well.

If you are wondering why some people do not like vibration. Let us go on that tangent. For some people, it just does not feel good for them. It is not the sensation or pressure that brings them sensual satisfaction. For others, vibration can actually be overstimulating or their genitals may be so sensitive that vibration actually can feel painful. So if this is how vibration makes you feel, it may not be your vibe (pun intended) and there are other activities you might want to focus on.

Some Tips for Using the OhNut

Step One: If you have been eyeing up the OhNut but are not sure how to start, step one would be to invest in a set. They have a la carte options and bundles for whatever might spark your interest.

OhNut Starter Kit: This has the basics to get you started, the OhNuts, a case, lube and cleaner for your toys! This is a great starting point if you want to get into OhNuts and try them out at home.

Nice to See You Bundle: This has a cool mirror so you can be one with your perineum as well as lube and a carrying case to go with your OhNut set.If you are looking for more ways to self explore, this package is the way to go.

Buzz Bundle: This comes with an OhNut Vibrating ring, lube and cleaner for your set. If you read all about the vibrating part and that spoke to you, choose this one.

Butt Stuff Bundle: This is for anyone curious about anal play. It includes an OhNut set in Jade or RAINBOW! There is also an anal training kit and lubricant which is safe to use with both. If you are nervous about butt stuff, you are probably not alone. Stay tuned for another blog on this topic later on in the year!

Step Two: Invest in lube. OhNuts are made of a soft, very stretchy silicone. They need adequate lubricant to be comfortable for both partners. Water based and silicone based lubricants are both safe to use with this product, and OhNut’s website gives more details on this.

Step Three: Communicate your OhNut plans with your partner. Maybe it is a bit of a surprise, and maybe it is a decision you both make together. Before the OhNut enters intimate play, it is a great idea to talk about the plans with it. No one wants a stretchy ring introduced suddenly without any introduction or warning.

Some Conversation Ideas:

“I saw this thing that I think would be really fun to try out together. Would you be OK with that?”

“I love all the intimate things we do together, but I was thinking adding a little vibration might be something fun and new to try together. How would you feel about using a vibrating ring in one session?”

“Hey honey, I saw these rings advertised on Instagram and I thought they looked kind of cool. What do you think about trying them?”

“I noticed when you are penetrated too deeply you seem uncomfortable. I found these stackable cushion rings that allow us to customize how deeply something can go inside of you and I thought we should try it out!”

“I really want to try _________ and I was thinking it might be more pleasurable for us if we tried the OhNut and maybe the vibrating ring that goes with it.”

“I had a dream about you using the OhNut to do _______________. Want to help pick out a set to order and try together?”

Other Thoughts/Questions I’ve Heard from Patients

(answers are from their FAQ website)

What is the OhNut made of?

“Ohnut is currently made of a skin-safe polymer blend. It’s a thermo-set material that is BPA, phthalate, and latex free.”

Can I use one OhNut with multiple partners?

“As a precautionary measure we recommend that Ohnut is not shared between different partners. Technically, Ohnut’s material can be porous under a significant amount of pressure but that is more pressure than the amount applied during partner use. While there is currently no evidence that Ohnut harbors bacteria or can transmit STIs between partners, we want you to be as safe as possible.”

How does it feel physically for the penetrating partner?

“While Ohnut can be used by penetrating partners of any gender, feedback from those with penises includes not noticing the difference and feeling like full penetration, while also enjoying its additional use for foreplay. Some may feel a slight “hug” sensation. The majority report that sex is more satisfying because they’re not as worried about causing their partner pain and their partner isn’t as worried about being in pain.”

Does OhNut come in different sizes?

Classic: Designed for those who wear “Standard” or “regular” condoms; Lifestyles Snugger Fit, Slim Fit, or similar.

Wider: Designed for those who wear Trojan Magnum, Durex XXL, or similar; or who prefer a looser fit.

In comparison, the Wider Ohnut is 15% wider than the Classic Ohnut and stretches up to 50% more.”

How do I care for my OhNut?

“Make sure to store your Ohnut linked together in its bag between uses. Hand wash your Ohnut with mild soap and water after use and allow to air dry. Save your dishwasher for the dishes.”

What if OhNut doesn’t work for me/ us?

Since every body is unique, using Ohnut will not be the same for everyone. Depending on stress level, time of month, and other extenuating factors—our bodies are literally different every time we have sex. Customers have sent a ton of positive feedback, but even for those couples who love it, sometimes it doesn’t work as desired. After all, we’re only human. Good days and bad days are normal.

There are still all kinds of different things you can do with your Ohnut. Some folks have really enjoyed using Ohnut as a couples “stroker” or for oral sex or… (this is a new one!) one customer recently said her partner used two rings as a “ball stretcher.”

Overall, the OhNut can be a really valuable toy and tool for intimate play, whether you are managing pelvic floor issues, or just looking for  fun new sensual adventures.
