Enuresis Risoria: Nothing To Giggle At

Enuresis Risoria may sound like a spell from Harry Potter, but what it really means is giggle incontinence, which is when the bladder spontaneously empties during laughter.

This is an issue that usually begins in childhood and can continue into adolescence and adulthood if not addressed.

It is different from stress urinary incontinence which is urinary leakage that occurs with any or all stress activities to the abdominal canister such as laughing, yelling, lifting, bending, jumping, running, etc.

Giggle Incontinence does not directly correlate to pelvic floor muscle strength or abdominal canister coordination. It is an involuntary release of any or all of the bladder contents during giggling or laughing.

Giggle Incontinence can be super embarrassing to a child and also difficult for caregivers to manage.

What child wants to live in fear of peeing himself if having fun with friends?

What parent want to yell at their child to go to the bathroom when they’re having fun and laughing?

It totally ruins the moment of everyone.

The good news is that your handy dandy Pediatric Pelvic Floor PT can help you out with this issue with some ideas to help manage and hopefully eliminate this issue from your child’s life.
